In this program, facilitated by IFSA-Butler, students enroll directly in the University of Glasgow, one of the oldest and largest universities in Britain, founded in 1451. Coursework is available in 120 departments in four colleges, and the Departments of Scottish Literature and Scottish History collaborate on a special course for visiting students interested in Scottish culture. A special course on bagpipes is also available. The university is home to one of the oldest and most extensive libraries in Europe. Students live in housing ranging from large and small residence halls to student houses and flats, most within a mile of campus; meals are self-catered. Glasgow is the center of the Scottish cultural renaissance, offerring a stellar arts scene and two repertory theatres.
Visa Requirements
U.S. passport holders typically do NOT need a visa for this program. However, travelers must complete a pre-travel authorization (ETA) before departure. This requires downloading an app, submitting an application, and paying a fee. As of April 8, 2026, ETAs will cost £20.
Non-U.S. citizens will most likely need to apply for a visa after getting accepted into the program. Students can use this passport checker to see if their citizenship requires a visa for studying in the UK.
*If students study abroad in the UK for longer than one semester, then a visa is required.
