In this program, facilitated by IFSA-Butler, students enroll directly in the University of Stirling, which boasts true campus environment with 310 acres of parkland as well as modern, well-equipped buildings. Located less than an hour bus ride from Glasgow and Edinburgh, respectively, the University of Stirling has an arts center that offers excellent performances in drama, film, music and dance. Students live in student flats within easy walking distance of academic, sports and dining areas. Central Scotland is home to Stirling Castle, one of the largest and most historically and architecturally important castles in Scotland. From campus, students can visit both the Highlands and Lowlands, and hike in the Trossachs, a beautiful set of peaks that form the boundary between the two.
Visa Requirements
U.S. passport holders typically do NOT need a visa for this program. However, travelers must complete a pre-travel authorization (ETA) before departure. This requires downloading an app, submitting an application, and paying a fee. As of April 8, 2026, ETAs will cost £20.
Non-U.S. citizens will most likely need to apply for a visa after getting accepted into the program. Students can use this passport checker to see if their citizenship requires a visa for studying in the UK.
*If students study abroad in the UK for longer than one semester, then a visa is required.
