Program Description:

This program is unique, even for SIT standards as they recruit Cameroonian students to participate fully alongside U.S. students, offering an unusual opportunity for focused interaction and partnership. Students will learn about the immigrant experience of Cameroonians in France, and will take a week-long trip to Paris, visiting a vibrant Cameroonian immigrant community near the Chateau Rouge. Students will also discover the complex relationship between the influences of western gentrification on the indigenous communities. Coursework is taught in English, and students will receive intense French language instruction and learn basic Pidgin English or Fulfulde. Homestays are an integral part of the SIT experience, and on this program students with experience two types of homestays; an urban homestay in Yaounde and a rural homestay in Batoufam. Once coursework is completed, students can choose to do an internship or an independent study project on the topic of their choice.
