Program Description:

Famous for the Red Light District, canals, and its bicycle culture, this SIT program in Amsterdam opens up conversations exploring the intersection of gender and sexuality with race, class, and religion from different communities. On this program, you will have the opportunity to travel to Utrecht and Rotterdam, as well as Rabat, Morocco to explore the Muslim perspective on gender and sexuality. You will look at theories and applications of gender, LGBTQI+ and sexuality studies in activism and consider how identity is experienced and perceived. During the semester you will live with a homestay family in Amsterdam, and courses will be taught in English with one required course in Elementary Dutch. In addition to the coursework, during the last four weeks of the programs students are required to do an independent research project on a topic of their choice or an internship.
