Program Description:

In this study center program, students study music in Vienna, a city that bridges a myriad of cultures and is home to many of history's greatest composers, from Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven to Brahms, Mahler, and Schoenberg. Students also have the opportunity to study German through language courses available at all levels. The IES Abroad Music program offers students private music lessons, practice rooms, instrument storage, local instrument rental, and a Music Performance Workshop.  Students choose between apartments, residence halls, and living in local residences while in Vienna.

PLEASE NOTE: Blair students interested in applying for this program must meet with Dean Brian Utley in Blair. There is a form in your VU study abroad application that he will need to sign prior to the VU application deadline.

**For this program, students will need to apply for a Austrian visa. This requires an in-person appointment at the Austrian consulate or VFS Global office, so students should expect to travel to their visa appointment. This is included on the Budget Sheet for visa cost estimates.

  • If apply for spring study abroad: Do not plan international travel during Thanksgiving or Christmas Break if you are applying for an Austrian visa.

  • Please review the VFS website to determine visa requirements and consular jurisdictions.
