Program Description:

The IES London Theater Studies program is designed to engage students in Britain’s rich historical and contemporary theatrical tradition through theater and drama courses. The core curriculum will analyze the artistic, financial, and professional structures that influence theater in Britain, with an emphasis on London. Students will also examine key texts and performances within their relevant historical and cultural context and delve into theater criticism, reception theory, dramaturgy, and stage design.

IES partners with the RADA, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts to provide a unique experience and explore the art of theater, drama, and other performing art topics in a hands-on approach.

Students are required to take these IES Abroad Theater courses (3 credits each):

  • DR355 Theatre in London: Analyzing Text & the Dramatic Imagination
  • TH355 The Theater Industry: Inside & Out
  • TH380 Acting: Then and Now (in partnership with Royal Academy of Dramatic Art)

The remaining courses can be other theater courses or other courses taught at the IES London Center, and students are required to take at least 15 credit hours.

**Please note there is a MANDATORY advising requirement for this program that must be completed before the application deadline**
